Nocturnal adventures, late night openings and activities across Leicestershire this weekend

Night owls can look forward to a weekend of nocturnal adventures as museums and galleries alike inspire fresh discovery by opening their doors to late night visitors as part of the annual after-hours celebration.

Museums and galleries across the country are uniting to open up their collections to the public for Museums at Night 2010, with late opening hours and a huge range of activities for all with the east midlands boosting a great range of events this weekend.

Museums at Night is organised by Culture24 www.culture24.org.uk/museumsatnight and will take from 14 -16 May to coincide with the Europe wide campaign La Nuit de Musées.

Renaissance East Midlands is supporting the family friendly events and museum openings happening at night across the East Midlands which are mostly free of charge. In Leicester these include a Medieval Leicester Night against the backdrop of the illuminated Roman remains at the city’s Jewry Wall Museum and We’ll Meet Again – celebrating Kegworth during Wartime at Kegworth Museum.

Spend an evening entertained by medieval craft activities, displays and talks led by our re-enactor. Plus, take the opportunity to explore the museum against the backdrop of the illuminated Roman remains. Blue Badge guided walks around Medieval Leicester from 6.00pm – 7.15pm and 7.30pm – 8.45pm. TIGERS CAPTAIN OPENS RECRUITMENT EVENT

Leicester Tigers captain and New Zealand Centre Aaron Mauger will be opening tonight’s recruitment event at Sytner’s Grove Park contact centre. Due to growth, Sytner has created six jobs at their national BMW & MINI contact centre in Leicester.

Job hunters at the event which runs from 4pm to 7pm will be able to meet the team at reservations centre and gain information on the new roles and opportunities.

The new jobs will suit anyone looking for an exciting challenge as part of a successful team. If you are self motivated, customer focused and energetic, Karin Hardy, Regional Divisional Manager for Sytner says this could be just the job for you.

The key responsibilities include giving really great first telephone impressions to Sytner customers, handling aftersales enquiries and reservations and following up enquiries and sales opportunities.

Jaz Hans, 39, joined the reservation centre in June this year as a Reservations Advisor and hasn’t looked back. Hans said “I had been out of work and applied for a job at the reservations centre and was immediately successful. My job involves taking inbound telephone calls and booking in services for BMW and Mini for 14 dealerships which keeps me busy. I enjoy my job and at Sytner you are encouraged to be responsible for your own progression with support always on hand.”

The jobs have been created due to a sustained period of growth for Sytner across the UK, bucking the trend for the motor trade sector. The Sytner Group is the UK’s leading retailer of new and used prestige cars, achieving 6^th position in The Sunday Times ’20 Best Big Companies to Work For’ award.

County museums are award winners

Northamptonshire Museums and heritage sites were announced as award winners at the Renaissance Heritage Awards award ceremony held at Kelmarsh Hall on 22 July 2010.

The ceremony celebrated the work of museums and heritage collections throughout the county, with Desborough Heritage Centre winning Museum of the Year.

The Awards recognise excellence in museums and heritage sites across the county, they are in their fourth year and this year are supported by Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited as well as Renaissance East Midlands.

County museums are award winners

Lincolnshire Museums and heritage sites were announced as award winners at the Renaissance Heritage Awards award ceremony held at Alford Manor House on 16 July 2010.

The ceremony celebrated the work of museums and heritage collections throughout the county, with St Katherine’s – 900 years of History Heritage and Cultural Centre winning Museum of the Year.

The Awards, supported by Renaissance East Midlands, are in their fourth year, recognising excellence in museums and heritage across the county.
