Media release: New weekend saver ticket for the Love Luton 2012 Festival

PR 2782

10 April 2012- For Immediate Release

New weekend saver ticket for the Love Luton 2012 Festival

The Council has announced a new special weekend saver ticket for the two Love Luton 2012 Festival evening performances at Popes Meadow.

Following requests from local residents, the new ‘weekend ticket’ will enable music fans to attend both performances by The Wanted and Olly Murs on Friday 6 July and Saturday 7 July at a special discounted rate, instead of buying separate tickets.

A weekend single ticket will cost just £59 which offers a saving of £13.50. A weekend family ticket (four people – either one adult and three under 16s, or two adults and two under 16s) will cost £199, a saving of £91.

Anyone who has already purchased tickets for both the Friday and Saturday nights can swap them for a ‘weekend’ ticket and will be refunded the difference if they email their name and phone number to 2012Festival@lutonculture.com before the end of April.

Similarly, anyone who has already bought a ticket for one of the nights can ‘upgrade’ to a weekend ticket by emailing their name and phone number to the same address.

The Council has also announced a temporary extension of its early bird offer. Tickets can be purchased from www.luton.gov.uk/2012festival

Leader of the Council Hazel Simmons said both initiatives followed feedback from residents to the Love Luton 2012 Festival roadshow which has been visiting venues across Luton in recent weeks.

Cllr Simmons said: “A number of people have been telling us that they are finding it hard to choose between the Friday performance featuring The Wanted and the Saturday performance featuring Olly Murs so that’s why we have introduced the weekend ticket.

“The weekend ticket will help music fans attend both nights at a lower price than buying tickets separately.”

Cllr Simmons added: “We have been overwhelmed with the phenomenal response from the public since announcing Olly Murs, The Wanted and other massive acts are coming to Luton. I don’t think people actually believe that there is going to be an event of this size in Luton.

“We’ve spoken to lots of people on our promotional roadshow who want to attend both nights so I hope that this new weekend offer will allow them to do just that.”

The temporary extension of the early bird offer will run for a limited time only.

For the time being tickets for the Friday 6 July performance featuring The Wanted, Bradley Johnson, Lawson and SW Storm will remain at £30, while tickets for the Saturday 7 July performance featuring Olly Murs, Skepta, Sway, Mz Bratt, Lady Leshurr and Voices with Soul will remain at £32.50. A 10 per cent student discount remains valid for anyone with a NUS card.

Cllr Simmons added: “We want as many local people as possible to be able to attend this once-in-a-lifetime event for Luton at the best possible prices. A few people have told us that they need a bit more time to purchase tickets so it is only fair that we temporarily extend the early bird rate before we look to sell the tickets more widely outside of Luton.

“I must stress that this is only for a limited time and I encourage people to purchase them quickly to avoid disappointment.”

The Love Luton 2012 Festival will be packed with a huge range of activities including a spectacular carnival parade, school games, circus and Mela activities along with music, comedy and dance leading up to a special Olympic Torch celebration event.

The University of Bedfordshire are platinum sponsors of the festival, while Heart FM, Motorbodies, The Mall and Walls have signed up to the gold packages.
