Student discount introduced for festival tickets

Luton Borough Council and platinum sponsors the University of Bedfordshire have come together and agreed a special student price for Love Luton 2012 Festival tickets.

For a limited time only, any student with a NUS card will pay just £27 for the Friday 6 July performance at Popes Meadow featuring The Wanted, Bradley Johnson, Lawson and SW Storm.

A discounted student rate of just £29 will also be in place for the longer performance on Saturday 7 July featuring Olly Murs, Skepta, Sway, Mz Bratt, Lady Leshurr and Voices with Soul.

The discounted student price is valid for any student with an NUS card, which works out as a 10 per cent reduction off the already reduced early bird offer.

Tickets can be purchased from www.luton.gov.uk/2012festival

Tickets can also be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre in St George’s Square and The Hat Factory in Bute Street during box office hours. Students will need their NUS cards. There are no phone bookings.

Cllr Hazel Simmons, Leader of Luton Borough Council, said: “We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the phenomenal response from the public since announcing Olly Murs, The Wanted and other massive acts are coming to Luton. I don’t think people actually believe that there is going to be an event of this size in Luton.

“We have been to a couple of events at the University of Bedfordshire recently and met a lot of students who are huge fans of the festival acts. We don’t want to exclude anyone from attending the festival and that is why we’ve introduced the special student rate.”

Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire, Professor Les Ebdon CBE DL said: “The University, and its staff and students, is proud to be a platinum sponsor of the upcoming Love Luton festival and we are thrilled to have been able to agree this special student ticket price.

“The University and its students are at the very heart of the local community so the opportunity for them to use their NUS discount is very much welcomed. In a festival that will bring so many people together, we are delighted that our students have the chance to be part of that mix.”

The Love Luton 2012 Festival will be packed with a huge range of activities including a spectacular carnival parade, school games, circus and Mela activities along with music, comedy and dance leading up to a special Olympic Torch celebration event.

The University of Bedfordshire are platinum sponsors of the festival, while Heart FM and Motorbodies have signed up to the gold packages.
