A Celebration of Local Heroes and Forgotten Sporting Legends East Midlands Airport Opens Our Sporting Life Exhibition

On Tuesday 5th October 2010 an exhibition that celebrates the finest Olympians from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Derbyshire opens at East Midlands Airport.

The exhibition is part of the Our Sporting Life nationwide series that will be the largest ever exhibition of British sporting heritage with its final display being in London for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Opening at East Midlands Airport on Tuesday 5th October 2010, the exhibition, like the others happening around the country, will highlight how sport has shaped the country, its communities and people.  It features the story of the UK’s role in the Olympics, from its early days through to the current developments leading to the 2012 Games. There is an opportunity for everyone to get involved as Our Sporting Life wants to hear your sporting memories via their website www.oursportinglife.co.uk

Highlights from each exhibition will become part of the largest ever exhibition of British sporting life and heritage which is to be held in London for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Objects and stories from the nations and regions will be joined by icons and treasures from our national sports, such as the Ashes Urn, Calcutta Cup, and the football from the 1966 World Cup Final to name a few.

Our Sporting Life is developed by the Sports Heritage Network and in the East Midlands is funded as part of the Igniting Ambition Cultural Olympiad programme, by Renaissance East Midlands, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, the Legacy Trust and is part funded by the European Union, with support from East Midlands Airport.

Our Sporting Life in the East Midlands are being curated and project managed by ArtReach.
